QP #1: Sagging Shelves
February 22, 2016 § Leave a comment
Does this look familiar?
When we put too many items on a shelf that doesn’t have enough support, it will start to sag.
If you have shelves that aren’t nailed to the side panels of a cabinet or wall (meaning you can actually lift them), you can turn that sagging shelf over to make it gradually bend the other way and back to its original form.
As you turn the board or shelf over, make sure the painted edge or the one with the edge banding (or “edging”) is the side that’s facing you. You don’t want the raw cut of the board to be the part that’s exposed.
If after a while it starts to droop again, repeat the process. For a more permanent solution, drilling additional support (like brackets) on strategic spots will do the trick.
